We had been using our 5m Savage on the lakes but really wanted to get some sea fishing in. Tauranga Harbour looked ideal but we were daunted by navigation, tides and managing traffic. Despite a Day Skipper and Powerboat Level 2 quallie, we simply don't get out often enough to feel confident moving to the salty stuff. We needed an experienced trainer to take us around the harbour in our own boat to boost our confidence. Found Chris @ Harbour Margins through Facebook and his training sounded just the thing ! Great initial discussions around what we needed. He was totally flexible around timing and content. We turned up - very lucky with the weather - and had a great day. We toured around the whole harbour area, mooring at Omokoroa for a quick coffee; practised docking, beaching and anchoring; even popped out the harbour entrance to experience the open sea. Chris was patient, clearly experienced, and quick with advice that you just can't get in a book. Scouted some great fishing spots too. If you are looking to build confidence and get practical advice - from ramp handling and etiquette, local conditions, and boat and rope handling in your own craft - then I would warmly recommend a trip with Chris. He made the day fun and rewarding. Excellent local knowledge. Great trainer. We are launching again in a couple of weeks with the rods !
